Wow! I’m the parent of a 6 month old. When did that happen? This is Kali, working up to, and then giving me her strong opinion of, peas. So far she’s been eating anything I’ve been putting in her mouth, regardless of whether she’s liked the taste. Today was the first time she has stuck to her guns and let me know she didn’t want anything to do with what was in front of her. Still living up to her reputation of being THE easiest baby that ever there was, she still ate the peas, just cried when I put them in her mouth.

In other news: Kali cut her first tooth today.

Happy 6 month birthday Sweet Pea!

My latest project.

Remarkably, I found a 40’s pattern that matches my measurements really well…I love the look of this era, but I’m afraid that the style doesn’t really suit me, but we’ll see… I bought this pattern a while ago, and haven’t really landed on a fabric that I could see making this in. Then I was out with Lauren picking out her apron fabrics and I can across this:

It appealed to me because of it’s vintage look, but most of all that it was $1.99/m. In fact I was going to use it for something completely different, I had it picked out with this wool tweed:

For a separate project, then realized that they would look really nice together, and it would be in keeping with the 40’s era.

Its fun when things come together nicely.

I’ll let you know how things turn out.

A few weeks ago I had an urge to throw a party for New Years rather than have the usual quiet evening in with a few friends. I didn’t put a ton of stock into my decision, it was an impulse that I felt needed to be done.

I don’t know, maybe it was because I’m feeling like I need to celebrate even though the life event that I am still waiting for (settlement) is still on the horizon and I’m tired of waiting for something to party about. Or maybe subconsciously I knew that it was the close of a very significant decade in my life. The last 10 years have brought the biggest changes that I have ever experienced and possibly ever will. Its hard to imagine another one that will be as life changing. If it is, I’d like to know, I think I need to catch up on more sleep in order to pull off another 10 years like that.

To reflect:

Moved to Waterloo

Travelled to Morocco, Chile, Colorado, Western Canada, Cuba, Congo, Germany, Italy, Ecuador.

Made fantastic new friends.

Began singing with the GPC

adopted Autumn

“slight” altercation with a school bus.

massive recovery from altercation.

met and married Chris (yay!)

mourned the loss of my dad

probably laughed as much as I cried.

I think I did pretty good, and of course I couldn’t have done it without my God and my incredible family and friends.

(feel free to comment on anything I may have missed, 10 years is a lot to go over, especially after partying it up the night before)

Now for what’s to come…

It can be said that I am possibly be the worst grocery shopper on the planet. That, or I’m way too spur of the moment with my meal planning that I seem to make too many trips to the grocery store. Case in point: in the last 24 hours we’ve made 4 trips.

However, I did manage in these 24 hours to cook a beef wellington dinner, bake short bread, lemon squares, and black and white red velvet cookies with Caroline and Kristin. Then concoct what I assume will be a face melting pot of Chili with Chris containing 7+ kinds of peppers (my hands are still burning from chopping them). I know as it is now simmering in my dutch oven on the stove, that I should be preparing my mouth by lining it with Vaseline, but instead I’ll have a giant glass of milk at the ready. It needs to be used up anyway, because not too long ago I made a trip to the grocery store thinking we were out of milk, only to discover when I got home with it that we had 2/3s of a bag left.

When I was poking around the fabric store in Sept. to see what was in for fall and winter, I fell in love with this boiled wool and knew I had to make something out of it for work. It had to be a dress (of course) and Caroline suggested I go with this style, and I’m really happy with it. It was easy to make and it’s so comfortable and warm that I’m tempted to find more colours and just wear them all winter.

Ok, maybe something similar so I don’t look like a schoolgirl all winter.
